Knowing about the instruments of a surveyor is important. Here are a few definitions that may be helpful.
Chromatic: Of or relating to color, Giving all the tones of the Chromatic scale.
Range of Magnification: On a total station it is the amount of magnification that the "Gun" has been built with. ie. the power of the scope.
Self Reading Rod
Philadelphia Rod: Consists of two sliding parts and can be extended from 7ft to 13ft in length, otherwise known as "low rod" and "high rod".
Verniers: As you can see in the above image the verniers are the smaller graduations that can help the instrument man to more accurately determine the rod reading.
